GLKC had a Summer BBQ on July 23, 2023. A great time, good food and a watermelon hack with friends and family!



GLKC had a special “Independence Day Open Keiko” on July 4th, 2023 at the Plymouth Arts and Recreation Complex Big Gym. We welcomed special guest, Kota Kurogi from the Belgian National Team. Thank you to all guests for joining!


All United States Kendo Federation (AUSKF) National Championships were held in Auburn Hills, MI from June 30 – July 2nd, 2023. Over 400 participants from across the United States competed in this prestigious event at the O’Arena at Oakland University. GLKC was represented by Collin Shinohara (Senior Youth Division), Takuya Manome Sensei (Shinpan) and Robin Tanaka Sensei (Team MWKF Coach). Many of our club members also volunteered their time to make this tournament a success. We look forward to the next National Championships in three years’ time!




GLKC Juniors participated in Ontario Junior Kendo Championship hosted by JCCC Kendo Club in Toronto on April 30, 2023. All the GLKC juniors did their very best! Thank you so much JCCC Kendo Club and Kendo Ontario Junior Development Program for organizing this Kendo event!




GLKC members participated in the Kendo Seminar on February 18th and the 25th Annual Detroit Open Kendo Tournament on February 19th hosted by the Detroit Kendo Dojo. Thank you Detroit Kendo Dojo for hosting this Kendo event!

Special guest, Komeda Toshiro Sensei from Kyushu Gakuin High School led the seminar on February 18th, 2023. GLKC members greatly enjoyed and learned a lot from the seminar for future Keiko practices and shiai tournaments.

Collin Shinohara finished third in the Senior Youth Individual Division. Congratulations!
GLKC had a casual New Year’s gathering and “Setsubun” Japanese Spring Traditional Bean Scattering Ritual on February 05, 2023. “Setsubun” has the intent to ward off evil spirits (Oni – Japanese Demons) and to bring good fortune (Fuku – good fortune) to the household. It was great seeing everyone and looking forward to a happy and healthy 2023!
